When this historic 1917 public high school needed restoration Data Capture was called in to provide scanning services. Located in the Washington heights section of Manhattan, the building had elaborate cast stonework coping stones, balusters and decorative eagle statues. Our scans enabled quick accurate replication of these decorative elements, and maintained the integrity of the historic façade. Shop drawings were prepared, along with CNC mold files, enabling data to flow directly into the process of element fabrication.

Long range scanners at roof level provided accurate data capture of all visible elements
Multiple scans of the rooftops were taken and aligned to create a digital data record of the building’s ornamental and cast stonework.
The scanned images were exported to a CAD program to produce shop drawings with exact dimensions for roof coping and stone details.
Three dimensional cast stone elements were hand scanned for greater accuracy, providing digital data for solid modeling.
Hand scans were cleaned and digitally restored, the resulting files used to create molds for new castings. Use of our scanning process in lieu of hand formed on-site molds allowed work to continue through the winter months, maintaining the project schedule.
